Bruxism and Teeth Grinding:
Grinding your teeth can be subconscious, especially while you sleep, but can severely damage your teeth. It could result in jaw pain, irritated gums, worn down teeth, and damaged enamel. Grinding and clenching your teeth produces 80 times more wear than non grinders. Bruxism has also been known to cause tense muscles and headaches and aggravate TMJ.
One way to control your bruxism is to wear a night guard or mouth guard. It will prevent your teeth from wearing on each other and can also prevent you from clenching your jaw. Night guards are custom fitted to your upper or lower teeth. They allow for proper breathing and are comfortable. Mouth guards can also protect your existing restorations. They often last for 10 years or more and will prevent you from damaging your teeth further.

I came to Dr. Aust because I had a sore jaw from clenching. He made me a custom night guard that has worked wonders! What I also liked is that he had other options for me if the night guard didn’t work. (Botox injections)
It was so nice knowing I could do something else if the night guard didn’t work. Throughout the whole process Dr. Aust was so easy to talk to and he explained everything so well that I was confident I was getting the right treatment. Thank you Dr. Aust!!!
